1. Review all information sent to you from your school/college, including websites and anything mailed to you directly.
Transfer students: in addition to the information sent to you by your school/college, you should also review information about your intended major. Specific departmental websites can be found by searching on the www.berkeley.edu homepage.
2. Plan your semester course schedule.
Using the information sent from your college, begin to develop your semester schedule. To do so, complete any schedule planning worksheets or online orienteering programs sent to you by your school/college. If you haven't received anything from your college, click here for a general worksheet to help you plan your courses.
Be sure to note any requirements you may have already satisfied through previous coursework and/or exams. Also, review the following general University requirements to see if you have already satisfied them:
Transfer students: for students transferring from a California community college, you can visit www.assist.org to see what requirements have been satisfied by your previous coursework. A copy of your unofficial transcript(s) can help as it can take several months before your previous coursework transfers over to Berkeley.
3. Review the Online Schedule of Classes tutorial.
Berkeley's Schedule of Classes, which lists what courses are offered each semester and when and where they take place, is only available online. Click here for a quick tutorial on using the Online Schedule of Classes.
For each course you plan to take, use the online Schedule of Classes to find:
- Course Control Number (CCN)
- Date/Time of course
- Location
- Units
- Exam Group
- Lab and/or Discussion group time/location (if applicable)
4. Watch for Adviser Code information on November 4.
Your Adviser Code (AC) will not be available before November 4. Be sure to keep your email address updated on Bearfacts and watch for AC distribution announcements from CalSO. You can also log back into the calso.berkeley.edu website during this time for information and updates.
Along with your Adviser Code (AC), you will receive a link to an online tutorial on how to use the Tele-BEARS course registration system. This tutorial will walk you through the process of signing up for classes.
Once you have received your AC and completed the steps above you will be able to begin signing up for your first semester courses. After you have completed these steps, if you still have questions or need to check with someone about your schedule, contact your college or major adviser for further assistance.
If you don't make it to CalSO, keep in mind that we will be offering a half day make-up program called "Getting Your Bearings" (GYB) on Thursday, January 14, 2010.
GYB won't cover as much academic information as the spring programs (since you'll already be registered at that point), but it will be a great way to get to know the campus, learn about available resources for incoming students, hear from college advisers, and meet some of your fellow classmates.
