What to do if you can't come to CalSO
If you can't attend a CalSO program, you will be registering for up to 10.5 units (Phase I) in mid-July. To help ensure that you receive all necessary information and are prepared for the Tele-BEARS course registration process, we recommend you follow these steps:

1. Let us know if you can't attend CalSO by June 13!
2. Review all information sent to you from your school/college.
3. Plan your semester course schedule.
4. Review the online Schedule of Classes tutorial.
5. Watch for Adviser Code information in mid-July.

1. Let us know if you can't attend CalSO by June 13!

If you are unable to attend CalSO, you need to let us know by June 13 so we can email you information on accessing your Adviser Code (AC) and enrolling in your classes. To initiate this process, hit the "I'm ready to log on!" button at the bottom of our main page. Once you are authenticated, hit the "I can't attend!" button at the bottom right of the sign up page.

Your AC is needed the first time you register for classes and will be available to you in time for your Phase I appointment.

2. Review all information sent to you from your school/college, including websites, email, and anything mailed to you directly.

Transfer students: in addition to the information sent to you by your school/college, you should also review information about your intended major. Specific departmental websites can be found by searching on the www.berkeley.edu homepage.

3. Plan your semester course schedule.

Using the information sent from your college, begin to develop your semester schedule. To do so, complete any schedule planning worksheets sent to you by your school/college. If you haven't received anything from your college, click here for a general worksheet to help you plan your courses.

Be sure to note any requirements you may have already satisfied through previous coursework and/or exams. Also, review the following general University requirements to see if you have already satisfied them:

Transfer students: for students transferring from a California community college, you can visit www.assist.org to see what requirements have been satisfied by your previous coursework. A copy of your unofficial transcript(s) can help since it can take several months before your previous coursework is evaluated.

4. Review the online Schedule of Classes tutorial.

Berkeley's Schedule of Classes, which lists what courses are offered each semester and when and where they take place, is only available online. Click here for a quick tutorial on using the online Schedule of Classes.
For each course you plan to take, use the online Schedule of Classes to find:

  • Course Control Number (CCN)
  • Date/Time of course
  • Location
  • Units
  • Exam Group
  • Lab and/or Discussion group time/location (if applicable)

5. Watch for Adviser Code information in mid-July.

Your Adviser Code (AC) will not be available until mid-July. Be sure to keep your email address updated on BearFacts and watch for an AC update email from the CalSO office. You can also log back into the calso.berkeley.edu website during this time for information and updates.

Along with your Adviser Code (AC), you will receive a link to an online tutorial on how to use the Tele-BEARS course registration system. This tutorial will walk you through the process of signing up for classes.

Once you have received your AC and completed the steps above you will be able to begin signing up for your first semester courses. After you have completed these steps, if you still have questions or need to check with someone about your schedule, you will be able to contact your college adviser for further assistance.

If you don't make it to CalSO, keep in mind that we will be offering a full day make-up program called "Getting Your Bearings" (GYB) on Tuesday, August 26, during Welcome Activities.

GYB won't cover as much academic information as the summer programs (since you'll already be registered at that point), but it will be a great way to get to know the campus, learn about available resources for incoming students, hear from College advisers, and meet some of your fellow classmates. Reservations can be made in mid-July.
