transfers rave about CalSO The major adviser was very helpful. She showed us what enrollment for a typical major would look like, and she provided very useful information about ways to fulfill upper division requirements. Before I went, I was wondering what we could possibly do all day. I assumed CalSO would be explaining how to read the schedule and other elementary and boring info, but boy was I wrong! CalSO was not only extremely informative, but it was very entertaining! Presentations were great, the student counselors were awesome, and I felt so welcomed and happy to be a part of UC Berkeley. I was surprised at how organized it was. I was glad to have a small group environment the whole time with a CalSO counselor. I had a problem getting my adviser code during Tele-BEARS registration, and the counselors were able to straighten everything out for me, for which I was very grateful. Great enthusiasm from the staff. The counselors were helpful and provided honest and direct opinions/answers to questions when approached. Overall, the orientation was helpful, and I learned some priceless hints for attending Cal. It was a lot of fun, although a bit long. The major advising was great, and I panicked until the advisers helped me understand how to pick classes. The farewell segment was great; I really felt the school spirit in the room. I enjoyed the feedback from former transfer students. Exposure to UCB in itself is very important to me because without exposure, access to education is denied. I like the first year experiences the most because it gives me an idea how it feels to be a transfer student, and that I'm not alone. I actually enjoyed the health and safety stuff. It was a little long, but super informative and not nearly as boring as I thought it would be.
