Extension/FPF students rave about CalSO The first year experiences were by far my favorite segment. It felt comforting to hear from people in the same boat as I am, and to hear them tell me that everything will be fine. The overall program, although tiring, gave us information on the questions we had. I have a bit more confidence coming on campus. My counselor knew a lot about University history and instilled Cal pride in us. She was very approachable, and I hope to come to love the University as much as she seems to. I had nearly all of my questions answered and made some friends. I also learned about Cal traditions and figured out where all the main things were, like the library. It was quite informational and provided a lot of opportunities for meeting people. Bear Territory [a segment on diversity] was intense and intellectual--the way I imaged discussions would be among Berkeley students. My counselor was a big help, very friendly and informative. I had a lot of questions about FPF and about choosing a major, and he really helped. The counselors were very entertaining and helpful. Counselors branched out and even tried to talk to people from other groups, not just their own. I thought the welcome address was very cool. The activities where students shared their experiences helped me connect more to the program and start becoming excited about being in FPF. CalSO itself didn’t really tell me anything that I didn't know, though the First Year Experiences and student interactions were really helpful. I think the best thing about CalSO is just getting to know other people and making those initial bonds. |
