Open Recreation
The Community Center gymnasium and weight room are open to the general
public for a fee of $5/day. Sports programs availble are Adult
Basketball, Futsal, Table Tennis, Women's Basketball & Badminton.

Fitness Memberships
University Village
Residents and Community Members have an opportunity to purchase
a "Pro-rated Fitness Membership"
for the remaining Fall Semester, November 1 through December 20
for $40 for Village Residents & $60 for General Public. This
entitles the holder to access to all classes in Weight Training,
Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and Kojasho Karate classes.
Weight
Room
University Village Recreation has a small weight room that is open
to Village Residents as well as the general public. We have 2 Stairmasters,
a rowing machine, a Precor eliptical trainer, a Lifecycle recumbant
stationary cycle and a Lifecycle upright stationary cycle, a Reebok
spinning cycle, Cybex leg extension & leg curl machines, a Gravitron
and a Cybex multi-station machine set up. There is also an assortment
of free weights (dumb-bells) ranging from 3-75 lbs and an incline/decline
bench.
A Weight Room Orientation is required for anyone wishing to use the
weight room, where a one time $10 fee is charged for both Villagers
and the General Public. Use of the weight room is free for Village
Residents and there is a $5.00/day charge for the General Public
(or Unlimited Use with a Fitness Membership!). Please check the

weight room hours of operation as well as the schedule for Weight
Room Orientation.

Taiko

Develop self-expression and musical creativity through the indigenous
Japanese drumming instrument called taiko. Although taiko has existed
in Japan for several centuries, used in rituals and ceremonies,
it has become an innovative musical instrument. We seek to improve
the player’s power, speed, rhythm and other important aspects
of drumming skills.

Yoga is known for its mental, restorative and postural benefits as
well as being a good core strength building program. University
Village Recreation offers Yoga Classes taught by Carla Koopal. Bring
a yoga mat and a towel.

Kojasho Karate

An eclectic karate style that spans many approaches ranging from
traditional Japanese karate to soft "internal" styles
such as T'ai Chi.

Field Closes on November 30th!
The fields are open and the Village Game is scheduled from 3:30-5:30pm
on Sundays on Fielding Field West through
Novemeber 29th. This is a "pick-up" game for Villagers
and their guests! To inquire about field conditions when rain has
occurred within 48 hours, call 510.981.5161. Please note that unauthorized
play on Fielding Field or on the adjoining Gabe Catalfo Fields will
result in a fine of $250 for the first offense, $500 for the second
and $1000 for the third, levied by the ASFU. If you have questions,
please call the Recreation Office at 524.4926.
